Tapatak Oz Exams are an amazing experience for all concerned – students, teachers and the examiner. We have a huge amount of content in our exams that the children are required to master and we believe in giving honest feedback that both applauds what is great, but also encourages development. We certainly believe our program develops technically strong tappers with a unique and creative technical and performance edge. But if our syllabus requirements are more demanding than your current syllabus and our marking structure different – then yes – your results may differ as you embark upon our tap program.
However as many of our dance schools have found, by following our detailed instruction and implementing suggestions from our free feedback at the end of our exam sessions – the tapping standard and JOY for tap soon turns around and a huge leap forward may be made. As with anything in life – you get out what you put in. So if you want to change the tap culture and tap standard in your school – implementing a more challenging syllabus is certainly a good place to start.
If you are looking for a program that encourages strong technique, individuality, creativity, tapping that stays true to modern developments and a real joy and passion for rhythm – then Tapatak Oz is for you.
The most common dance school to use our syllabus is one that wants to excel in all the genres of dance that they offer. The teachers we attract genuinely love tap – they have a real passion for tap and rhythm – and want to pass it on. There are certainly many other options for tap education out there, so we recommend our program to dance schools that:
A – are wanting to increase numbers in their tap classes
B – have teachers who are willing to put the time into learning the vast content
C – dance schools that like to be creative, edgy and constantly in step with the fluid nature of tap today
D – schools that are looking for quality in their tap
E – schools that are wanting to improve their tapping level
F – genuinely love tap and want their tap department to excel
No – not at all. Examinations are an optional benefit that you can add to your tapping culture. It motivates both teachers and students to do their very best and gives students a true sense of accomplishment each year. But many schools, simply buy the program and use it “ in house” without participating in exams. This gives them a structure of progressions through which the students can move each year. Yes you can. At Tapatak Oz we believe that people gather their dance skills in many different ways, with some people holding “official qualifications” and others gaining their skills through a lifetime of experience. Some of our clients are professional performers who also teach, some have tapped all their life, some are less experienced in tap and looking to broaden their knowledge and skill set and some are amazing tap teachers with years of experience who just want something new and fresh. Whatever your background, you are welcome to join our happy band of tappers and draws from Christine’s wealth of experience in the classroom. Our programme is available to all with no ongoing fees or charges.
Yes we do – however we do not require teachers who use our programme to hold this qualification to teach our program – rather it is an added qualification they can undertake should they choose. Our Tapatak Oz teaching qualification requires the candidate to sit an exam to show their competence in teaching the work in those levels. For more information on these please email: website@tapatak-oz.com
Our teacher’s qualifications are: Junior Associate / Teen Associate / Senior Associate / Master Associate / Examiner

If you look at them all you will see the progressions that are covered throughout the syllabus. It is these progressions that get the results and provide the cohesion in the program. Enjoy!
Each level has sections that follow through our carefully formulated class structure.
Session 1 in each level – that is JNR ADV1, TEEN ADV 1, PRE SNR ADV 1, SNR 1 – contain all the warm ups and technical exercises for those levels. The session 2’s in each level – that is JNR ADV2, TEEN ADV2, PRE SNR ADV 2 and SNR ADV 2 – contain all the rhythmic combinations, corner work and routines for the level. The syllabus has lots of teaching tips and advice as well, which is great for junior tap staff with less experience in how to actually teach the work. And should you need more assistance or class ideas – simply book a FREE SKYPE session and ask Christine or one of our experienced team for advice.
NOTE: TINY TOTS, JNR BEGINNER and JNR INTER have just one session to cover all aspects of the level.
Yes they are – you see all exercises in a variety of ways for your convenience. It is just like being in a class with Christine – but you can repeat that class anytime you like. You see all exercises in these ways:
• from the front and the back without music
• without the music slowly
• with the music at tempo
• from the knees down, so you can focus on the footwork
• in a full length body shot to give you ideas for upper body style
It is super easy!
Yes of course you can and often it can be fun to use another piece of music with a similar beat and vibe. But our programme does come with music that was especially commissioned for the syllabus exercises, so we recommend you start there. The tempos and styles of music are chosen for a variety of reasons, to enhance the tapping, rhythms and teaching experience for all. The Tapatak Oz music is really funky, fun and varied – so we are sure you will love it too! The younger grades stick to traditional swing type feels and then the older grades add in some blues, funk, ragtime and a capella for great variation.
Yes you can – and this is what makes Tapatak Oz so popular. We offer you a great structured base that gets results, but allow you to add your own flavor to all you do. We encourage our teachers to choreograph their own intros to all exercises and the students in the higher levels are also asked to add their own 4 x 8 etc on some exercises, to give them choreographic and enhanced rhythmic skills. We also encourage you to check out what is going on in the professional world of tap too and give everything your own twist. This is a hallmark of Tapatak Oz as it allows for originality and creativity and remains fluid and changing over time.
Yes you can. This programme is for anyone who loves tap and wants to learn something new or expand their own tapping bag of tricks.
Yes you can – however you would want to do this at your own discretion to value your own investment. We do ask you however, not to share files with other teachers at other dance institutions, as this will seriously devalue your own investment. Please also remember that this is Christine Denny’s lifetime of work and we ask that you honour her intellectual property and considerable efforts in collating this programme, by not sharing it outside of your own dance school if you are a studio principal / teacher or with friends if you are a private customer or freelance teacher.

Then this syllabus is the perfect starting point for you. Book in for a Skype session so we can recommend the best way forward. Start at the beginning and gradually, if you carefully follow the program as suggested, your students will move through to the higher levels.
Yes you can. We have so many clients who have moved over to our syllabus from other programs and they all say the same thing “ I wish I had done this years ago”. Like anything you just have to start. Of course, it is can be difficult at first as the students adjust to a new style and all the content. And of course it is challenging for your tap teachers, to learn all the new work they will be teaching. But the rewards can be huge and many of our clients report a huge turn around in the numbers in their tap classes and their results at dance competitions once they implement Tapatak Oz at their dance school. As the famous quote says ” If you want different results – you have to try a different approach”
Many of our clients report a huge turn around in the numbers in their tap classes and their results at dance competitions once they implement Tapatak Oz at their dance school. Most importantly, Tapatak Oz breeds an enthusiasm for tap within its dance schools and the children develop not only technique and a true understanding of rhythm – but they develop a LOVE and JOY for TAP which is amazing to see and be a part of.
